Tehran University of Medical Sciences

Mohammad Abdollahi (MA) acquired a PharmD in 1988 from the University of Tehran and then finished a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology in 1994 from the Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS). He gained postdoctoral fellowship training in Mechanistic and Clinical Toxicopharmacology at the University of Toronto in 2001. MA has obtained the honor of full professorship of TUMS since the second half of 2002. Since 1997, he has contributed to establishing the Tehran Drug and Poison Information Center for eight years. MA chaired the Department of Toxicology & Pharmacology of TUMS from the second half of 2005 until mid of 2016. Besides, MA has been the Director of the National Board of Toxicology for nine years. MA Chaired the National Society of Toxicology for eight years. MA has been involved in establishing the Pharmaceutical Sciences Research Center (PSRC) of TUMS as a Cofounder and Vice-Chair, and Manager of the Ethics Board since 2003, and then since the August of 2016, he has chaired the PSRC. He chaired the Central Library of TUMS between 2004 and 2006. During 2014-2016, MA founded and chaired the Drug Discovery and Evaluation Department at the National Institute of Medical Research Development (NIMAD). He was the Vice-Chair for International Affairs of the School of Pharmacy, TUMS, for two years. Between mid-2015 and mid-2017, MA directed the Secretariat of the Council of Pharmaceutical Sciences Education and did an excellent job reforming the Pharmacy Education Curriculum. In 2013, Since February 2018, MA chaired The Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (TIPS), the Organizational Ethics Department, and the Toxicology and Diseases Group within the TIPS. Since November 2020, MA is re-elected as the Head of the Department of Toxicology and Pharmacology in School of Pharmacy, TUMS. So far, MA has contributed to authoring more than 1000 papers in prestigious journals, writing more than 60 book chapters, and editing 16 books. MA has been listed among top scientists of ESI of the Clarivate Analytics and the OIC Member States. According to Scopus, the current H-index and total citations of MA are 80 and more than 26500, respectively. Since 2004, MA has received recognition by the ESI as one of the top 1% scientists concurrently in the field of "Pharmacology and Toxicology" and then added to the area of "Clinical Medicine" and then to the "Agricultural Sciences". Besides having DARU's Editor-in-Chief (EiC), a journal published by BMC (UK), followed up by Springer Nature from 2012, MA has been a member of the BMC Editors Advisory Group started from 2013. MA was one of the Founders and the EiC to another journal titled "Journal of Medical Hypotheses & Ideas" published by Elsevier. He has also served on the editorial board of many prestigious journals. He is an individual member of many academic societies such as EUROTOX (Europe) and SOT of USA (full member). MA has cooperated with some key international organizations such as OPCW (Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons) as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board in the Netherlands (2012-2018), WHO (World Health Organization) as a Member of the Guideline Developing Group for Prevention of Lead Poisoning in Switzerland (since 2011), COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) as a Council Member in the UK (2013-2017), IAS (Islamic-World Academy of Sciences) as a Fellow (since 2007), Fellow of American Academy of Clinical Toxicology, and International Society of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR). MA is a Co-Founder and Board of Directors of the Iranian Chapter of ISPOR (since 2013). MA joined the Research Council of the COMSTECH Inter-Islamic Network on Virtual Universities (CINVU) in 2020. In addition to more than 30 prestigious awards, MA received the prominent international award of IAS-COMSTECH in 2005 in Pharmacology & Toxicology. The main research interests of MA are Mechanistic and Environmental Toxicology, Evidence-Based Medicine and Toxicovigilance, and Pharmacology. MA's contributions to this field are attested by an extensive array of citations in papers and books. MA has uncovered the critical mechanistic connections between the toxicity of chemicals and the etiology of human diseases.
